FIRST Robotics Grants (Sponsored by Monsanto Fund)

The Monsanto Fund makes FIRST Robotics Grants that give financial support to student robotics teams competing in activities affiliated with For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST), a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics program dedicated to inspiring students to become science and technology leaders. Grants may be used for the following FIRST team activities: robotics competitions in grades 9 through 12; technology challenges in grades 7 through 12; LEGO Leagues in grades 4 through 8; and LEGO Leagues Junior for children aged 6 through 10. Priority is given to teams that demonstrate diversity to maximize impact, such as female-led teams, gender or racially diverse teams, and economically diverse teams.

Eligible applicants are registered FIRST robotics teams affiliated with schools; nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations in operation for at least two years; and units of government such as libraries, villages, and municipalities that are located within 30 miles of a Monsanto site community. The following states and Puerto Rico currently have Monsanto operations that qualify for this program: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. To apply, a registered FIRST team must obtain an invitation code from the Monsanto site contact. Applications must be submitted using the online system.

Eligibility: Public, Private, Charter, Other (including homeschool, 501 (c)(3) organizations)

Award: Grants of $6,000 for rookie robotics competition and $5,000 for veteran competition teams, $1,500 for technology challenges, and $500 for LEGO Leagues and LEGO Leagues Junior are awarded.

Deadline: Applications are accepted August 15 through September 15, annually
