The foundation offers matching grants only, whereby schools and nonprofit organizations raise at least half the funds to purchase the requested number of instruments, using a provider authorized by the foundation or, after discussion with the foundation, an alternate provider of instruments of similar quality. Applicants have one year from the date of application to raise matching funds. Only programs that serve children in kindergarten through grade 12 are eligible for grants. Lists of current projects and partner schools or community music programs that have obtained stringed instruments through Classics for Kids Foundation are provided on the website. There also is guidance for starting a stringed instrumental program, including program ideas and a sample budget.
The application form is available online. Completed applications may be sent by postal mail or email.
