Ohio is poised to make significant new investments in local school safety, and eligible schools have until early October to apply for up to $100,000 for their safety and security projects.
Back in 2021, Ohio received a very high volume of applicants for the K-12 School Safety Grant. At that time, there was only $5 million for these grants. Recently, Ohio announced that there is now $100 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funding for the new 2022 K-12 program. Approximately $47 million will go to the applicants from the 2021 program, and the remaining $52 million will be awarded to new applicants.
Eligible applicants for the 2022 program include public schools and chartered non-public schools that did NOT receive funding from the 2021 program and also have NOT completed construction through the OFCC programs in the last five years. Schools will be awarded a maximum of $100,000.
Applicants for the 2022 program must complete the Security and Vulnerability Assessment to explain the degree of their current needs. Grant funds may be spent on purchasing or updating certain equipment for safety and security. To see the list of equipment that is authorized for the grant, click HERE.
The applications are now open and will close on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 11:59PM, click HERE to apply. Please note, districts need to apply on behalf of their eligible schools.
