Ohio’s School Bus Safety Grant

Photo taken in Lake Zurich, United States

Last week the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce shared the Ohio School Bus Safety Grant Program!

This initiative will help school districts and other organizations repair, upgrade, or enhance the safety features of their school buses. Many districts have limited budgets, making it difficult to cover unplanned repairs for buses with advanced safety features.

This grant stems from recommendations made by the Governor’s School Bus Safety Working Group. That group examined student transportation, from training and driver retention to emergencies and traffic safety, and found 17 specific recommendations.

Eligible Applicants:

  • City, local, exempted village, and joint vocational school districts
  • Community schools and chartered nonpublic schools
  • STEM schools
  • Educational service centers
  • County boards of developmental disabilities

Application information:

  • Opens: October 15, 2025
  • Closes: November 14, 2025, 5:00 p.m.
  • Applications must be submitted via the Department’s ED STEPS e-grant system
