Afterschool Professionals Blaze New PD Trail

Afterschool Professionals’ Learning Community (APLC) Ready for Kick Off

The Ohio Afterschool Network‘s new Afterschool Professionals’ Learning Community (APLC) is ready to help your afterschool program succeed. Educational consultants from EnvisionEdPlus and McWatters Consulting led a full-day “train-the-trainer” session in Delaware, OH on September 27, 2017 for a handful of highly-qualified Afterschool trainers from all over the state of Ohio. This training was geared toward creating capacity with Afterschool leaders for a blended model of professional development that has recently been unveiled throughout the state of Ohio. This particular training focused on articulating characteristics of effective in-person and online facilitation.

Since this model of professional development is both in person and online, much of the day was spent in intense discussion about effective online facilitation and how to make it the most beneficial for the Afterschool professionals who will take the coursework. An extremely effective outcome of the professional development was that the future trainers were able to calibrate their online responses with the group and discuss a common structure to their responses. Jim Still-Pepper of Still-Light Seminars, also worked closely with trainers to deepen their skills for creating engaging in – person sessions that meet individual needs and address adult professional learning standards.

EnvisionEdPlus and McWatters Consulting have developed two series of bronze, silver, and gold badges using the online tool PDPlus to offer Weaving the Web and STEM/STEAM: Integrating Design and Making into Afterschool Programs. APLC is designed to engage afterschool professionals in communities of like-minded individuals with facilitated support from trainers and flexibility to learn on your own schedule. Read more about the APLC here. What’s even more exciting, there are more than 10 additional badge series coming 2018!

Registration is now open for Weaving the Web and STEM/STEAM on the OAN Website through the event calendar, located here. Space is limited so register immediately.
