Ohio’s tax-free season has started! This two week period will allow shoppers to save some money before school starts.

It starts today, Friday, August 1st, and will go until 11:59 pm on Thursday, August 14th.

During these two weeks, you can purchase items without paying state and local taxes on items. The standard Ohio sales tax is 5.75% and county taxes range between 0.5% to 2.25%.

Eligible items include:

  • Tangible items for $500 or less.
  • Ex: clothes, office supplies, shoes, electronics, pet supplies, personal care items, etc.
  • Items can be purchased in-store or online. If bought online, they must be sent to an Ohio address.

Items that are NOT eligible include:

  • Alcohol, tobacco, cigarettes, or vapor products
  • Gift cards
  • Services (excluding certain repair/install services where parts are less than $500)

Retailers normally see increased traffic during these tax-free times, so be sure to plan ahead! We recommend creating lists and planning accordingly.

Happy shopping!
