Creativity in the Classroom: Unlocking Student Potential Through Innovation

In a recent article on SedonaSky.org, they shared that the top 10 groups of people on average with the longest attention spans included artists and musicians. Why? Creativity.

Concentration and focus are crucial for artists to bring their visions to life. So, why not incorporate more creativity into our teaching methods?

Childhood development experts say that a child’s average attention span can be estimated by multiplying their age by two or three. For example, a ten-year-old student typically has an attention span of 20 to 30 minutes. Of course, this can vary based on the student’s interest in the subject, distractions, the complexity of the task, etc. Additionally, the rise of social media over the last decade has impacted attention spans.

Due to the mass amounts of content available online, there is never a shortage of stimuli. Mindlessly scrolling causes the brain to quickly jump from one stimulus to the next. Dr. Gloria Mark shares that this causes the brain to struggle with its ability to hold attention for longer periods of time (Psychologs.com).
