Over the last few decades, everything has been transitioning from paper to digital. Although it has its benefits, it also has its risks. The good news for cybersecurity professionals is that every industry, from healthcare and finance to retail and education, relies on strong and secure platforms to do their jobs. The need for individuals with this skill is very sought after in all industries. The US Bureau of Labor and Services expects this field to grow by around 33% within the next 9 years. It’s common for people to be unaware of their interests until they invest time in exploring different career possibilities. Our job as youth-serving professionals is to create safe environments where young people can do this. Thankfully there is a growing number of resources and tools available that can help you begin or continue making connections to this field. Through activities that strengthen student’s problem-solving and critical thinking skills, they can learn what likes and dislikes they may have.
What’s even better is that career pathways are becoming more common in schools across the United States. For young people, having the opportunity to learn about as many pathways as possible before graduation gives them an advantage that can save them a lot of time and money down the road.
