Ohio Law requires each city, local and exempted village school district to provide career-technical education to students enrolled in grades seven and eight.
However, in the past districts could complete a waiver so they didn’t have to meet this requirement. Recently, H.B. 66 eliminated the CTE waivers effective for the 2026-2027 school year. This means that next year, every school in Ohio that serves students in grades seven and eight will be required to offer CTE coursework to those students.
While many schools already offer these courses, over 34% of Ohio schools do not.
