5 resources for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies.

Did you know that members of the LGBTQ+ community are twice as likely to be a victim of gun violence compared to their straight peers? (Sandy Hook Promise) At EnvisionEdPlus, we work to ensure that EACH youth thrives in school AND beyond. To achieve that, we must come together to embrace, accept, and include EACH youth. For Pride Month this year, we have compiled a list of 5 great resources to help end the violence, encourage support, and share information.

1.

The Trevor Project is a great one that we have mentioned a few times in our newsletters. They not only offer a 24/7 helpline and resources for LGBTQ+ members, but they also have a wide variety of articles to help people learn more about the community.

A few of the articles include;

2.

The Point Foundation has scholarships for LGBTQ+ students who are working towards earning a 4-year degree! Students must be at least a senior in high school, enrolled in or planning on enrolling in a college in the U.S. (community colleges, online programs, and trade schools are not eligible). To learn more about eligibility and requirements, click HERE. Applications are closed for this coming semester, but check back for future application opportunities!

3.

The Anti-Violence Project offers FREE virtual training that can help individuals learn how to de-escalate potentially violent situations and stay safe at pride events. Safety is a number one priority, The Anti-Violence Project will help prepare individuals in case of emergencies. Learn more HERE.

4.

CSD works to support deaf and hard of hearing individuals by ensuring proper technology, accessibility, and support. For pride month in 2020, they created a list of online communities for deaf members of the LGBTQ+ community!  To see their list, click HERE.

5.

Genders & Sexualities Alliance (GSAs) are student-led networks that offer a place for students to come together, build a community, and support each other. These networks can not only build a safe space, but it is also a place for youth to push for social justice! To learn more, or create a GSA club at your school, click HERE.

Together, we can take a stand against bullying and support the queer community!  LGBTQ+ students are bullied 2x more often than their peers, so no matter where discrimination occurs, don’t be afraid to speak out against it and stand up for what is right!
