Special Grant Update

Several important Ohio grants opened recently, and we wanted to put them on your radar.  

ODE Amplifying Graduation Pathways Grant

Nonprofit organizations, career-technical planning districts, registered apprenticeship training providers and institutes of higher education are eligible to apply for grants of up to $100,000 to serve targeted school districts (and others) to develop or expand programs that will help schools implement Ohio’s alternative demonstrations of competency.  The grants will fund projects from April 2022 – June 30, 2024.  

The RFP includes a list of targeted school districts. If your district is on this list, we recommend connecting with your partners that are eligible to apply. While districts and ESCs are not eligible applicants, they can and should be key partners. Projects must include at least one of the districts from the targeted list, but others may be included. Applicants MUST be able to demonstrate that they have significant experience with Ohio’s alternate competency options.

Summer Learning and Afterschool Opportunities Grant

Intent to Apply (required) Due: Feb. 1.

This BRAND NEW grant appears similar to a 21st Century Community Learning Center program, but likely has fewer requirements.  It also likely funds projects for only one or two years, because of restrictions on COVID relief dollars. We don’t know all of the details yet, but there is a bidders conference Jan. 21 @ 8am (see webpage above for registration information).  

For now, we know:

$89M is available – that is more than twice the annual amount for 21st CCLC grants!  
Schools or community-based organizations can apply to provide out-of-school-time services to address academic, social and emotional needs of youth.  
Focus should be providing direct services that are uniquely designed to meet local needs of students and target students who experienced greater disruptions to learning and/or did not engage consistently during the pandemic. 
Intent to apply IS mandatory and must be submitted by Feb. 1. 

Ohio Attorney General's Office School Safety Grants

This grant opened right before the holidays, but may have dropped off your radar so we are re-sharing today! County Boards of Developmental Disabilities, Educational Service Centers/Districts, Community Schools, STEM Schools, and Chartered Non-Public Schools are eligible applicants. The grant program supports safety initiatives such as school resource officer certification training; active shooter and school safety training or equipment; educational resources; training to identify and assist students with mental health issues; school supplies or equipment related to school safety or for implementing the school’s safety plan; or any other training related to school safety. Every school can receive $2,500 (minimum) or $5.50 per student – whichever is greater.  

** You do NOT need EEP for this grant.  It is totally EASY!  Just don’t forget to submit the application! 

Congratulations to Ohio's Equity for Each Grantees!  

Last week, ODE notified nine schools and one college that they were awarded grants.  EnvisionEdPlus is proud to announce that both applications we wrote were funded, bringing our current grant award total to $216,607,950 (and 20 cents)! 

Butler Tech was awarded $200,000 for their collaboration with Apollo Career Center, Tri-County JVSD and the Ohio Association of Career Tech Superintendents (OACTS) to expand access to female students in non-traditional career tech fields. OACTS has invited to EEP to be their professional learning partner on this project, and we can’t wait to start!

Marion City Schools received $200,000 to develop and implement The Ohio State University’s Microfarm Project, a sustainable and multi-generational micro-farming initiative that provides active and engaged instruction and work-based learning experiences that lead to a 12-point industry recognized credential (agribusiness and production systems certification).

Trauma Brain (Level 1) The brain is constantly changing and molding in response to the environment. These changes impact student learning. This is especially true in terms of trauma. STEAMing Up Literacy (Level 2) The content in this course is designed to begin your understanding of Problem Based Learning(PBL) and apply this knowledge to your own classroom. High Quality Literacy Instruction (Level 1 & 2) Core content includes an overview of Ohio’s Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement, evidence-based literacy practices, and resources and tools for literacy instruction. Supporting Families (Level 2) In Engaging Families Through Support - Level 1, you learned about eight types of parents/caregivers and reflected on your past experiences with each type, culminating in a plan to better engage specific types as partners in their children's education. During this 8-hour asynchronous course you will delve deeper in your understanding of the eight types of parents/caregivers by speaking with individual family members you work with, discovering what they need from you and your program, and implementing an action plan informed by the actual families you serve. Differentiated & Engaged Instruction (Level 1) Differentiation is effective instruction that is responsive to the learner’s preferences, interests and their readiness. It could be explained as a framework for thinking about your teaching and your student’s learning. This course discusses differentiation as an effective teaching tool. Included are many resources and strategies to help meet the learning needs of each student. Trauma Brain (Level 2) This course gives an advanced understanding of the brain. including differences between “active” and “relational” based brains, trauma-related behaviors, and strategies to reach and teach trauma-impacted students so that they can re-engage in learning. Differentiated & Engaged Instruction (Level 2) This 8-hour, self-paced course is facilitated by Laurie Trotter, an EnvisionEdPlus Instructional Specialist. The course explores advanced differentiation as an effective instructional method that is responsive to the learner’s preferences and interests. Create, implement, and improve a lesson plan to engage all learners. Participants will learn through various articles, videos, examples, strategies, and resources to be able to be proficient in starting to adapt lessons to meet all needs of students in their classroom.
