Foster College- and Career-Ready Skills with Entrepreneurship Education
According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report, problem solving skills and critical thinking top the list of skills employers believe will grow in value in the next five years. Active learning, resilience, stress tolerance, and flexibility are also high on the list. Most importantly, these essential skills can be learned and strengthened through entrepreneurship education!
The Ohio Afterschool Network, Young Entrepreneur Institute, and EnvisionEdPlus are partnering to provide out-of-school time programs and schools with free resources, training, and assistance to provide equitable access to entrepreneurship education. Together we can build and strengthen 21st century skills in youth.
We also provide monthly introductions and deep dives designed to help you prepare Ohio high school students to:
- Earn the Entrepreneurship Small Business certification. This is a three (3) point industry recognized credential that is part of the business and hospitality career pathways; and
- Successfully complete requirements to earn their OhioMeansJobs Readiness Seal.
Entrepreneurship Education Professional Learning Community (EE-PLC)
Did you know that in 2017, around 35% of all US workers were freelancers. That number
is expected to rise to 50% by 2027 (Forbes, 2017). New jobs require a different mindset — one that is flexible, problem solving, customer oriented, and constantly in search of opportunities (NFTE, 2019). Research shows that an entrepreneurs’ mindset — skills including innovation, self-reliance, comfort with risk, communication and problem solving — prepares young people for lifelong success ~ regardless of the career path they may take!
Join us monthly for an hour of collaborative learning where we explore entrepreneurship’s many facets and discover new ways to engage young people in building their own entrepreneurial skills and mindsets!
OAN’s Entrepreneurship Ed Professional Learning Community All PLCS will be live virtual and held one Tuesday a month from @ 10am-11am Eastern time.
Entrepreneurship Mindset via In-Demand Industry Credentials
As a result of Ohio shifting to the new, long term graduation requirements, many students will need to demonstrate career readiness by earning Industry Recognized Credentials. The Entrepreneurship Small Business (ESB) certification is a great one and counts as three (3) of twelve (12) points students can earn within the business and hospitality career pathways! By teaming up with businesses and non-profits, we are able to identify reasonably priced entrepreneurship curricula. Schools, afterschool and summer learning programs can use this curriculum to prepare students to earn their ESB certification. Each course or program offers hands-on, fun ways to engage students in building entrepreneurship skills and mindsets.
